FAQs

Common questions about D Festival programs, competition, and participation.

What is the International D Masters Piano Competition (IDPC)?

IDPC is D Festival’s premier international piano competition (2026 is the 2nd edition), designed to support young pianists through competition, performance opportunities, and a broader “artist development” ecosystem.

What kinds of awards does IDPC offer?

The 2026 IDPC includes cash prizes, festival scholarships, and an artist/young-performer management and promotion package with a total stated value up to HKD $300,000 (plus additional prize structures by division)

Who can apply?

The competition is open worldwide to pianists ages 8–30 who submit an application via the portal with required materials (including pre-screen recordings, repertoire list, and a portrait photo). Prior competition experience is not required.

Is there an online round?

Yes. For Professional divisions, the First Round is online, and later rounds are live.

Are there requirements for First Round videos?

Yes. First-round videos must be high-definition, recorded within the last 12 months, and editing/mixing/post-production is prohibited. Videos also must not display the contestant’s name/portrait/identifying info (only title + composer).

Does D Festival’s early-bird discount apply to IDPC?

The early-bird discount is for the D Festival programs and does not apply to IDPC-only applications.

Do pieces need to be memorized?

Solo and concerto pieces must be performed from memory; art songs and chamber music may be performed with sheet music.
