D-Ensemble

DFestival proudly introduces the D-Ensemble, an exclusive festival-based chamber group designed to offer exceptional collaborative experiences. All Elite Intensive Program participants will have the opportunity to perform a selected piano trio alongside distinguished D-Ensemble members, while select musicians from the Prime Advanced Program may also be invited to join the ensemble, further enhancing their performance and artistic growth.

Zichuan (Kevin) Wang

China

Zichuan (Kevin) Wang is a distinguished violinist pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance at The University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music. Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music, establishing a strong foundation in classical performance.Born in 1998 in Wuhan, China, Wang began his musical journey at the age of four under the mentorship of Mingjian Liu, an esteemed violin maker and director of the Wuhan Chamber Orchestra. During his formative years, he developed exceptional performance skills through extensive stage experience. His talent and dedication earned him the position of assistant concertmaster with the Wuhan Chamber Orchestra in 2012, where he performed in numerous local music festivals.Wang’s artistic development continued to flourish under the guidance of renowned pedagogues. After enrolling at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2016, he studied with distinguished faculty members Ivan Zenaty, William Preucil, and Stephen Rose. In 2023, he joined the Butler School of Music, where he continues his studies with acclaimed violinist Brian Lewis.Throughout his career, Wang has garnered numerous accolades at prestigious competitions and festivals. His achievements include the Erudite Price Award at the 2006 Huangshan International Art Festival, the Golden Award at the 10th CCTV Young Artists Competition in 2011, and First Prize in the Concerto Competition at the 2013 New York Summer Music Festival. He further enriched his musical expertise as a participant in the renowned Aspen Music Festival and School in 2015, demonstrating his commitment to artistic excellence and professional growth.

Yusong Zhao

China

Yusong Zhao is a distinguished violinist currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music with a full scholarship. His academic journey includes a Bachelor of Music from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford and a Master of Music from the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music.

His musical journey began at age four under the tutelage of Liu Mingjian. Throughout his development as a violinist, Zhao has studied with several eminent pedagogues, including Brian Lewis, Katie Lansdale, and Stephen Rose, the distinguished principal second violin of the Cleveland Orchestra. His exceptional artistry has garnered recognition from leading figures in classical music, including Nurit Bar-Josef, concertmaster of the National Symphony Orchestra, who lauded him as “a highly talented young musician with exceptional technical skill.” Edward Cumming, former artistic director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, particularly praised Zhao’s “warm and expressive” tone, highlighting his distinctive voice in classical music interpretation.

As an accomplished performer, Zhao has established himself on international stages through prestigious festivals and competitions. A significant milestone in his career was touring Europe with the National Youth Orchestra of China (NYO-China) in 2018. His artistic excellence was further demonstrated at the 2023 Pacific Music Festival in Japan, where he served as concertmaster and collaborated with renowned artists including Danish conductor Thomas Dausgaard and Japanese violinist Mayumi Kanagawa. His competition successes include first prize in the 2018 Hartt Chamber Music Competition, first prize in the 2021 Paranov Concerto Competition, where he delivered a compelling performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, and most recently, first prize in the 2024 Butler School of Music Concerto Competition, performing Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 under the direction of Farkhad Khudyev.

Zhao’s professional orchestral experience includes positions with both the Canton Symphony Orchestra and the Akron Symphony Orchestra in 2023. His commitment to artistic growth is evidenced through his participation in masterclasses with world-renowned violinists, including Rainer Küchl, former concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic; Daniel Froschauer, board member of the Vienna Philharmonic; and Nurit Bar-Josef. These enriching experiences have contributed to his development as both a soloist and orchestral musician, shaping his comprehensive approach to musical interpretation and performance.

Xinke Fu

China

Xinke Fu is an accomplished cellist whose musical journey began at age 9 under the mentorship of Jianqiang Zeng, the esteemed Principal Cellist of the Changsha Symphony Orchestra. His exceptional talent led to his admission as the top-ranked candidate to the prestigious Orchestral Department at Xinghai Conservatory of Music in 2020, where he studied under the guidance of Associate Professor Yijun Shen. During his conservatory years, Fu demonstrated remarkable initiative by founding the Sunrise String Quartet and pursuing intensive chamber music studies with Dr. Yabing Tan, while maintaining an active presence in numerous collegiate performances.Fu’s dedication to chamber music excellence earned him selection to the distinguished Chamber Music Masterclass at the Tianjin Juilliard School in 2022, where he received invaluable instruction from members of the internationally renowned Shanghai Quartet. His artistic achievements continued to flourish in 2023 when he was invited to participate in the YMCG Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Youth Music Week, collaborating with the prestigious Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. That same year marked another significant milestone as he successfully earned a position with the Greater Bay Area Youth Orchestra (GBAYO), participating in their concert tours and further developing his orchestral expertise.In recognition of his exceptional musicianship and promising artistic trajectory, Fu was awarded a near-full scholarship to pursue advanced studies at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music in 2024. There, he continues to refine his artistry under the mentorship of celebrated cellist Bion Tsang, former prizewinner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition and distinguished faculty member.

Tiange Li

China

Tiange Li is an accomplished cellist whose musical journey reflects a dedication to artistic excellence and international training. He earned his Master’s degree from the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in the United Kingdom, where he studied under Nicholas Stringfellow, the distinguished Deputy Head of Strings.

His early musical foundation was established at the Affiliated High School of Wuhan Conservatory of Music in 2012, under the mentorship of Associate Professor Li Zhen. In 2018, Li’s exceptional talent earned him admission to the Orchestral Department of Wuhan Conservatory of Music with the highest national score, where he continued his studies under Associate Professor Li Bing. During his conservatory years, he was honored with the “Outstanding and Innovative Talent” recognition for his artistic achievements.

A significant milestone in Li’s career came in 2019 when he was personally selected by world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma to join the YMCG International Youth Arts Week Symphony Orchestra through a competitive global audition process. This prestigious appointment further solidified his standing in the international classical music community.

Throughout his development as a musician, Li has benefited from masterclasses and guidance from several distinguished pedagogues, including Yu Mingqing, Professor of Cello at the Central Conservatory of Music; Li Jiwu, Professor of Cello at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music; and Marc Pierre Toth from Germany’s esteemed Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. These diverse influences have contributed to his comprehensive approach to cello performance and interpretation.
